It’s that time of year again when kids are out of school for a week in February. In the past years, my daughter’s school actually didn’t have any days off in February except for President’s Day. However, her school decided to change that this year and give the kids a week off. Plenty of families are headed off to the snow this week for snowboarding, skiing, snowball fighting, and other stress-relieving activities. However, if your family doesn’t have any out-of-town travel plans this winter break, there are still plenty of ways your kids can have fun this winter break.
5 Ways Your Kids Can Have Fun This Winter Break
Depending on where you live, kids can attend day camps filled with fun and activities. In my neighboring area alone, there are several places that have day camps for kids to have fun and burn their energy off. One of these day camps take place at a gymnastics school. Their camps focus on kid-friendly gymnastic activities. Our local community center also has several day camps based on different themes including Lego day camp, art day camp, and science day camp.

Indoor swimming pool
Your kids can have fun this winter break by making a trip to the indoor pool. It may be too cold to go swimming outside, but that doesn’t mean your kids can’t enjoy a good swim in the pool. Going to the indoor pool is a great way for you and your kids to get good exercise, have fun, bond and enjoy the water. Some indoor pools also have different activities for the kids that they can enjoy, such as water slides and poolside basketball hoops.
Create an obstacle course
This is one of my kid’s favorite activities. Creating an obstacle course gives you and your kids the opportunity to use your creativity together, bond, and burn off some calories. Ideas for props include:
- Hula hoops
My kid’s latest obstacle course was created at her uncle’s MMA gym. In the obstacle courses, they included a rope climb, running around old tires, jump-roping, doing a mini rock-climb, and crawling through a small tunnel.
Indoor treasure hunt
Bring the treasure hunt inside for winter break! Kids can have fun this winter break by participating in treasure hunts indoors. Making the clues for the treasure hunt can be one of the most fun things to do for the hunt. Doing treasure hunts with the kids are a great way for them to have fun, use their thinking skills, and stay away from the television. Examples of clues you can use include:
- You can find me at the thing where Mom puts the dirty laundry. When I am full of dirty clothes, she carries me to the laundry room.
- My sister sleeps on me at night. I’m soft and shaped like a rectangle.
Kids can have fun this winter break at the trampoline park
I didn’t know of any trampoline parks when I was a kid, but in recent years, more and more trampoline parks have been created in my community. Trampoline parks don’t just have trampolines for kids to jump on, but they also have other fun-filled activities. One of the trampoline parks near our home also have rock-climbing, foam pits, dodge ball games, and basketball games on trampolines. Jumping on a trampoline is a great way for kids to have fun and get in physical activity.
During winter break, your kids don’t need to spend most of their time in front of the television or playing video games. Get your kids involved in some of these activities and they can have tons of fun this winter break.
