There have been a number of food dishes I’ve been cooking for years. However, lately, I’ve been wanting to try different recipes but wasn’t sure where to start. I found out about Hello Fresh, which is a meal kit delivery company. They prepare ingredients for a dish and ship them out to customers, along with instructions on how to prepare the meal.
Basically, you look through their menu of pictures and choose the dishes you want. For this week, one of the dishes I chose was lobster ravioli. I was pretty excited to try this dish out as I’ve never had lobster and ravioli together.
One of the concerns I had initially when signing up for a meal kit delivery service was wondering what the condition of the food would be like when delivered (particularly the meat and vegetables that I imagine would spoil easily if just left in a box). However, when the box arrived, the vegetables were very fresh and looked great. In addition, the meat was surrounded by refrigerated packs and when I took the meat out, it was still cold so I took this as a good sign.
The first thing I did was chop the chorizo, onions, and garlic into tiny pieces.
Then I made the sauce for the carrots. I mixed together olive oil, chili flakes, honey, and a few pinches of salt. I dipped the carrots into the sauce and placed them on a baking sheet. I roasted them in the oven for about 15 minutes.
Afterward, I put the panko bread crumbs in a pan on the oven and mixed it with a little butter until they became light brown. I mixed a little salt and pepper in the bread crumbs to add extra flavor.
I boiled the lobster ravioli in a pot until the shells became tender.
Then I made the sauce which included tomatoes, onions, garlic, chorizo, vinegar, cream cheese and water.
In the last step, I mixed the ravioli with the sauce. I sprinkled the panko bread crumbs on top of the ravioli. Once the carrots were finished, I placed them next to the ravioli. Here is what it looked like.
I enjoyed everything about this recipe. It filled me up pretty quickly (only after 5 shells). The sauce was delicious and I loved the chorizo mixed in. The carrots also tasted great. I believe the honey and chili flakes gave it extra flavor. So overall, my first recipe with Hello Fresh was a success. My experience has been positive and here are some of the reasons I like them:
- You can skip weeks. If there is a week you don’t feel like ordering their food or will be out of town, you have the flexibility to skip the week.
- If you’re not home when the food is delivered, you might be worried about the food rotting in the box if it sits outside your home for a few hours. When I received the box, the meat was still cold as it was surrounded by refrigerated packs and all the other food was fresh. In other words, the quality of the ingredients were good.
- They have a good selection to choose from. One of the reasons I signed up for Hello Fresh was to diversify what I’ve been cooking in the kitchen. This week I chose the lobster ravioli, beef pizza, and steak fajitas.
Overall, I’m impressed with their food and service. If you’re looking to try different meals or want to try this lobster ravioli, check out Hello Fresh here.
