This post is my personal Hello Fresh review of their chicken teriyaki recipe. In the past, I’ve tried making teriyaki chicken on my own and it didn’t turn out so well. When I signed up for Hello Fresh, a meal kit delivery service, I saw that they had teriyaki chicken as one of their menu items that week.
Hello Fresh Review of Chicken Teriyaki
I chose the teriyaki chicken for one of my meal deliveries, hoping for a different outcome this time. What I like about getting it from Hello Fresh, is that they measure and prepare all the ingredients for me.
This saves time on grocery shopping and measuring the different ingredients. Once I chose teriyaki chicken for my meal delivery, they mailed me the ingredients, along with easy-to-follow instructions on how to prepare the meal.
Here is my Hello Fresh review of their chicken teriyaki and what I experienced:
They sent me garlic, lime, green onions, and white onions. I chopped up the garlic, green onions, and white onions into tiny little pieces.
Next, I boiled water and poured in the jasmine rice with salt for extra taste.
Afterward, I heated the pan, using 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Then I grilled the chicken breast (about 6 minutes on each side).
Once the chicken was done, I put it on a plate.
I started making the sauce, which included soy sauce, water, vinegar, and sugar. I left the sauce in a bowl.
Then, I started grilling the garlic and white onions in a pan.
Once those were done, I mixed in the soy sauce mixture left in the bowl. Then I mixed this sauce with the chicken. I topped the chicken with the green onions and sprinkles of lime juice. Here’s what my final dish looked like:
I have to say, I’m glad I tried the teriyaki chicken with Hello Fresh. It turned out much better than what I tried in the past! I think it turned out better this time, because I was provided with the pre-measured ingredients and easy-to-follow instructions.
The meal kit also included sesame seeds, which you would put on top of the teriyaki chicken, once everything is completed. However, I skipped the seeds for this one dish since I’m not a big fan of sesame seeds.
Another reason I like Hello Fresh is that the ingredients always arrive fresh. This was an initial concern I had when I first signed up for Hello Fresh. How would the vegetables and meat possibly stay fresh in a box getting delivered to my home?
However, all the ingredients they delivered have been great quality and fresh since I’ve started this delivery service. I think part of the reason the meat doesn’t spoil is that it’s surrounded by refrigerated packs to help keep it cool.
I was also getting some complaints from family members that I was always cooking the same thing. Hello Fresh gives you various options to choose from and I was able to try dishes that I never cooked before.
I also like the idea that you’re not committed to purchasing meals every week. I don’t order meals every week. For people who look at the cost and say it’s too expensive, you can try ordering meals for just 1 or 2 weeks in a month. You don’t need to order meals every week.
My experience has been great overall, but my Hello Fresh review also includes a few cons and I don’t recommend this service for the following people:
- People who are looking for super cheap meals
Meal kit delivery services are not extremely cheap. If you’re expecting to pay the same cost as buying Ramen noodles at the grocery store, then this service is probably not for you.
- People who want the convenience of “take-out” meals
Some people are looking for the convenience of food being completely prepared and cooked by the time it arrives at their door. Meal kit delivery services deliver all the ingredients to people (fresh and measured), but they are not cooked yet.
Overall, my experience with Hello Fresh was positive and I recommend them.
